Consultant – Technical Writer


INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND

CARE is an international development and humanitarian aid organization fighting global poverty, with a special focus on working with women and girls to bring lasting change to their communities. As a non-religious and non-political organization, CARE works with communities to help overcome poverty by supporting development efforts and providing emergency assistance. We believe supporting women and girls is one of the most effective ways to create sustainable outcomes in poor communities.

CARE International in Myanmar is implementing the Generating Rubber Opportunities (GRO) Myanmar Project, a Market Systems Development (MSD) project. 

GRO intends to develop a more resilient, competitive, environmentally sensitive and inclusive rubber economy in southeast Myanmar through engaging with the public and private market actors, policy makers, international and national think tanks and other relevant stakeholders. The project also focuses on Women’s Economic Empowerment and environmental sustainability.

In its second phase GRO has partnered with farmers for experimentation with integrated farming in rubber plantations, focusing particularly on inter planting of crops to measure resilience to the climate and soil conditions in Mon State, income potential for rubber farmers and impact of inter planting on productivity of rubber trees.  

OBJECTIVE OF THE CONSULTANCY 

As part of GRO’s exit strategy, the project will develop agricultural and business guidelines for rubber farmers reflecting its findings and results from the experimentation in Phase 2.  

The guidelines for will include good agricultural practices for integrated farming, analysis of investment, income and profit profile of crops/commodities (e.g. livestock) per acre plantation and will be produced in the Myanmar language.

Field monitoring and data collection has been continuous throughout the project phase and data and relevant project documentation will be provided to the consultant. The consultant will have access to the project’s technical teams for input/expertise.

Field visits to pilot farms can be arranged contingent on safety and security conditions.

SCOPE OF WORK

  • Review of project data and documentation
  • Development of guidelines in Myanmar language. It is anticipated that some illustrations will be required and these can be commissioned directly by the project. The project will also provide relevant photographs
  • Recommendations on crops/commodities relative to rubber acreage and resources (e.g. what crops can be propagated without irrigation systems; planting and harvesting cycles)  

ELIGIBILITY

  • This consultancy is for a Myanmar National or Myanmar-based company. 
  • Proven experience in developing technical manuals/handbooks and reports for agricultural value chains.
  • Knowledge of and previous work assignment in Myanmar rubber sector an advantage
  • Fluency in Myanmar and English languages

TIMEFRAME

August to November 2023.
